In the NAHL, GMs are asked to participate in multiple ways in order to make the league more competitive, and therefore funner for everyone involved. They must maintain a team of at least 25 players (3 goalies included) and answer to ALL offers sent their way, even if the offer is not one of good quality. They must be online quite frequently so that they can communicate with other league GMs who wish to send an offer their way. They must also send in lines on a regular basis using the GM Editor program, mainly when injuries occur. It is also their job to vote on all-star ballots and award winning. A GM that does not fulfil these obligations will be terminated as a GM in this league.
Two programs are required in order for a GM to be a part of the NAHL. The first one is the GM editor, which can be obtained at www.fhlsim.com. This program is used to adjust your pro and farm rosters, as well as set your lines. The GM files for this program can be obtained on this webpage.
The other mandatory program is ICQ. This is the league's main chat system. The ICQ chatroom is used for drafts. This program is also very useful for dropping messages to people even if they are not online.
One of the league's recommended programs to have is MSN Messenger, which is somewhat simular to ICQ. It is not mandatory but a lot of GMs prefer chatting on MSN, so it is a good thing to have.
The second recommended program is the player rerater, which determines the SC and PA rating for both forwards and defencemen. It can be obtained on this webpage.
When you will be away for a lengthy period of time (3 days or more), please send an email to the league stating that you will be away and for how long. A GM that fails to do this and leaves for a lengthy period will be presumed inactive and will be terminated from the league.
The NAHL has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to inapporpriate or offensive comments directed at an individual or at the league. When a situation of this nature is reported to the league, the commissioner will automatically investigate the incident, and may terminate the GM in question from the league if in his mind the incident is of a very severe nature.
Each GM is expected to act with maturity and handle their teams in a professional manner, while keeping in mind the main goals of the league, which is to have fun and maintain a spirit of competition between all GMs involved. A GM who is not able to do this will be terminated from the league.
When the commissioner asks GMs to vote on a rule change or to add a new rule, all GMs will be obliged to vote. When GMs are voting on a rule change, 60% of the league must vote in favor of the change in order for it to be overturned. In the case of a rule addition, it's simply majority wins.
